Bushiwi Community Development Partners (BCDP) is a community-based organisation improving the lives of vulnerable children, families and communities in Eastern Uganda through education, health promotion, community healthcare and livelihood development, so that communities can become resilient and self-reliant.

We are led by local people who know these villages as their home, working alongside volunteers from Canada, the United States, England, Zambia, the Czech Republic, Malaysia, Australia, Spain and France. They bring very different backgrounds and skills: medical students, doctors and registered nurses who work in our clinic and outreaches; teachers and tutors; designers, writers and IT specialists; builders, fundraisers and project managers. Some stay for a week, others for months.

Whatever their background, everyone here shares the same priorities: listening first, building on what the community already has, and passing on skills so the work continues long after a volunteer has gone home.

The Zion Community Story

2012: Our Founding

A first-aid station for the local school becomes the seed of today’s Zion Community Medical Clinic.

Community health programmes launch and the clinic building is restored, opening for full consultations and overnight stays in 2020.

2023: Registered CBO

Zion Community becomes a registered CBO, enabling formal partnerships with international donors.

2024: Life-saving Vaccines

Immunisation outreaches begin, taking routine childhood vaccines on foot to remote schools and villages.

Working Together

BCDP and Zion Community work hand in hand, bringing healthcare, education and hope to the mountain families of Bududa and Manafwa.
